About

Eastleigh Mens Shed was founded in 2014 by Hugh, Graham, Bryan and Andi. Thefirst shed was an old concrete garage that has to be dismantled in Romsey and then rebuilt on our original site  in Hamble. After four years of building several sheds and workshop space, we ran into problems with neighbours, so then relocated to our current site in 2018, where we have built our workshop on a WWII concrete base. this has since been sxtended along with a seperate woodstore and several outside and covered working areas. We have developed many links within our community and carrying out projects for both Hampshire and Eastleigh councils along with our local parish councils. we now do lots of work for local schools, pre schools, railway stations, community gardens etc. as well as making things for local residents and running a monthly repair cafe

We are open on Tuesday 9-2,  Wednesday 9-2 and Thursday 9-1. sometimes later.

Our shed is for our members who can work on their own projects, join in with our community projects, or just come along for the company Tea, Coffee and Biscuits some times cake are always provided.

The Men’s Shed movement originated in  Australia around the 1980s. There were earlier initiatives focused on improving the well-being of older men, but the concept of a dedicated community space with a focus on social connection and practical activities really took hold in Australia.

A Men’s Shed is a community workshop space designed specifically for men to connect, socialize, and engage in practical activities. It’s more than just a shed in your backyard; it’s a place where men can:

  • Bond and build friendships: Men’s sheds address a common concern that men, especially after retirement, might find it harder to build social connections. These sheds provide a welcoming environment to meet like-minded people and combat feelings of isolation.
  • Share skills and knowledge: Whether you’re a woodworking whiz or a repair guru, these sheds are a platform to share your expertise and learn from others. It’s a collaborative space where everyone can contribute and grow together.
  • Work on projects: These workshops are equipped with tools and resources to pursue hobbies, learn new crafts, or even work on community projects.
  • Find purpose and well-being: For some men, retirement can lead to a loss of identity and purpose. Men’s sheds offer a way to stay active, engaged, and feel a sense of accomplishment.

While traditionally focused on men, some sheds are becoming more inclusive, so it’s always worth checking with your local shed to see if they welcome everyone.

The shed is a great place for men to learn new skills, share knowledge, and make friends. They have a variety of tools and equipment available for use, and they are always happy to help out with new projects.
